Once harvested and milled, Jarrah is air dried to produce material ready for manufacture. Optimal quality and value is obtained from air-dried timber. Air-drying is best achieved by storing the timber in a suitably controlled environment for a period of up to three years. In addition to the supply restrictions applying upward pressure in the price of Jarrah, a significant element of the anticipated price differential between the green material of today and the dried timber of the future, will come as a result of the drying and storage process.

At capacity, the Jarrah Select storage and drying facility will be one of the largest of its kind in Australia. The facility has been purpose built to dry Jarrah effectively in industry recognized pack sizes. Local climatic conditions provide an efficient and economical environment for the drying and storage process. Qualified personnel monitor the material regularly ensuring that it is maintained and dried to industry best practice.

Jarrah Select will arrange the purchase of timber from Phoenix Forest Products on behalf of the client.

The timber remains the property of the client and the cost of storage and treatment is included in the purchase price. Upon maturation, Jarrah Select will offer a convenient sales service. At present, there is a strong market for Jarrah at an approximate price premium of 75% over green material.

Jarrah Select is in the process of securing long-term supply agreements with local and overseas markets for matured Jarrah timber. A portfolio of customers will be well established by the time client's timber reaches maturation in 3 years. Should the client nominate to use an alternative company to market their matured timber, they are free to do so but a commission will apply (refer to the purchase contract.)

Included in the “Service” and as part of the quality assurance program for both the “Investor” and “the “End User” alike the stored timber will be monitored at all times.

When the timber has reached the appropriate moisture content in the final year (Year 3) of the drying process as determined by the inspection protocols, each pack will be unpacked and Skip Dressed.

The process of Skip Dressing will assist in the final assessment of the timber quality and ensure the timber is “Market Ready”. At this time should any of the timber be determined not to meet industry standards due to unusual faults developed in the drying process it will be replaced by the Mill with dried timber from its own resources of equivalent quality and dimensions.

This policy of timber replacement guarantees that the total amount of timber purchased by the Investor will be delivered to the market, maximising their possible returns.

Definition: Skip Dressing.

Skip Dressed: When the rough sawn timber is lightly machined to see enough of the timber to determine its grade for sale. Not all of the rough sawn surface is removed in the process.1.
